EBALIKAS: A MOBILE APPLICATION FOR ENGLISH TO PANGASINAN TRANSLATOR

Abstract

The Pangasinan language is a cornerstone of regional identity but faces a decline due to migration, dominance of other languages, and limited learning resources. To address this, Ebalikas, a mobile application for English-to-Pangasinan translation, was developed to promote and preserve the language. The app offers real-time translation, speech recognition, and native pronunciation audio, catering to students, teachers, tourists, and parents.

Guided by Agile methodology, the project underwent iterative phases, including planning, design, development, and usability testing. User feedback highlighted the app's accessibility, accuracy, and user-friendly interface. The findings affirm the app's potential as an educational tool and a cultural preservation medium.

Ebalikas aligns with educational initiatives such as Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education  (MTBMLE),  supporting  classroom  learning  and  intergenerational  language

transmission. The app offers scalability, with future improvements including additional dialects, gamified learning, and advanced grammar modules.

This study demonstrates the role of mobile technology in addressing linguistic and cultural challenges, setting a model for preserving endangered languages while fostering community engagement through digital innovation.
