Abstract

The MEDIMART, a mobile application to find and sell medicinal endemic plants was developed. It allows users to take a photo of plants and post products with medicated information. Its main goals are to create an easy-to-use plant identification system and test its acceptability along with the accuracy of the app among the users.

The system processes plant images and then extracting features relevant to it. The relevant features are compared with a machine learning model trained on a database of species, scientific names, and medicinal properties. The system then gives identification of the plant along with the details about the medicinal use.

This project is based on the Agile Feature-Driven Development methodology to enable iterative development and continuous feature refinement. Success of the application will be measured by its ability to correctly identify plants and post the right products through the app.

Preliminary testing reveals that MEDIMART is capable of correctly identifying plants and offering relevant medicinal information. Users have shown interest in posting medicinal plants, thus indicating a high acceptance rate for the platform. Findings reveal that MEDIMART can be an important tool for users who are searching for medicinal plants.
