RoomSense was a Progressive Web Application (PWA) designed to improve classroom monitoring at Pangasinan State University, Lingayen Campus. The system aimed to eliminate the inefficiencies of manual monitoring, such as delays, crowded pathways, and difficulties in tracking room usage. By integrating RFID technology and IoT principles, RoomSense provided real-time updates on room occupancy, delivering accessible and reliable data for students, instructors, and administrators through mobile and web platforms.
The system was developed based on the Agile Scrum approach, allowing it to improve iteratively and directly in response to stakeholder feedback. RoomSense featured student and faculty administrator-specific interfaces, in addition to automatic schedule tracking and reporting functionalities. It replaced manual check-ups with RFID card scans to update room status, enhancing efficiency and accessibility in resource management.
Usability testing conducted with students and instructors indicated high satisfaction in key areas such as system visibility, consistency, and error prevention. Average scores from surveys reflected a positive reception, though improvements in feedback mechanisms and advanced features, such as camera integration, were suggested.
RoomSense supported Sustainable Development Goal 9 by fostering innovation and optimizing resource use in educational environments. It provided a scalable model for large institutions to implement smart monitoring systems, enhancing productivity, convenience, and operational efficiency.
