Abstract

This study investigated the effects of Padina sp. powder (PSP) as a feed additive on the growth, feed utilization, and survival of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fingerlings reared in plastic tanks over a 60-day feeding trial. Five diets were formulated with varying PSP inclusion levels: 0% (T1), 4% (T2), 8% (T3), 12% (T4), and 16% (T5). Growth performance indicators, including weight gain, specific growth rate, and final body weight, were significantly higher in T5. Feed intake declined with increasing PSP levels; however, no significant differences were observed in feed conversion ratio and feed conversion efficiency across treatments. Survival rate remained at 100% in all treatments, indicating that PSP was well tolerated at all inclusion levels. The observed growth enhancement was attributed to the bioactive compounds in Padina sp., which may have improved nutrient assimilation and physiological resilience. The results suggest that dietary inclusion of Padina sp. powder, particularly at 16%, can enhance growth performance and feed utilization without compromising survival. This highlights its potential as a sustainable feed additive for Nile tilapia aquaculture.
